280FX: updated version of the Model 280F fitted with faired landing gear, redesigned vertical and horizontal tail surfaces, covered tail rotor shaft and tail rotor guard. First flown in December 1983 and certificated in January 1985. Export customers include the Chilean army which bought 15. Estrom first to be specifically designed for a military need was eventually beaten to the order buy Bell Jet Ranger. |
