S. Military Aircraft Cessna Model 337 SUPER SKYMASTER Photo By DRP |
|
Intended to provide pilots with a twin engine plane that could be flown without asymmetric thrust problems after an engine failure, the model 336 Skymaster was first flown in February 1961 with fixed tricycle landing gear and an engine at each end of the central nacelle. Further refinement produced the six seat Model 337 Super Skymaster with retractable landing gear, and this was an immediate success with military as well as civil operators. Between 1967 and 1970 Cessna delivered to the US Air Force 501 of the O-2A reconnaissance, target marking, and forward air control model. In 1968 the company delivered to the USAF 31 examples of the O-2B psychological warfare type. These were each fitted with a leaflet dispenser and three high powered loudspeakers. |
