66-0284
and 66-0289, sporting Test colors, are seen here flying over Edwards AFB
during the late 70s and 80s. Most of our Thunderbird F-4Es wound up here
after leaving the Team in 1974, where they finished out their 25yrs of
service. All but one of them retiring around early 1991. Serving
in various roles, our old birds mostly supported the Cruise Missile
Chase program while at Edwards.66-0284, the very [first] F-4E off the St Louis production line for the USAF,
(though never one of our birds) now sits on a pedestal in colors
as # 1 (see 2nd picture) at Cleveland Lake Front Memorial Park next to a
Blue Angels F-4J. A really nice display park. Flying here with
-0284 is 66-0289 (one of ours). Ole 289 was the[sixth] F-4E off the St
Louis production line and ironically finished the last F-4 season with
the Thunderbirds as # 6. Retired for 4 years to the Boneyard, 289
was removed, transferred and restored, and now sits on display in colors
as # 6 at Castle Air Museum in Atwater, CA. |
