| SSgt Ray Quiring (Engines) quickly checks pitot probe heat during a morning preflight of the Slot plane. "Hot" preflights (motors running) were performed by the crews of each plane every morning. Full systems, flight controls, radios and instruments checks, along with INS alignment, altimeter settings and pre-setting the cockpit switches for each individual pilot were a requirement. Thunderbird maintenance crews were thorough in every aspect of checks and readiness during their preflights, thru-flights and post-flights. We also had a cadre of excellent Quality Assurance personnel to follow up behind us with no-notice inspections periodically. |
