Thunderbirds Maintenance

TSgt Mike Jones (Corrosion Control technician, aka, "Rembrandt extraordinaire") touches up some nicked spots and screw heads on the # 2 aircraft.  Mike and our other team painters were constantly busy touching up and repainting the airplanes both on the road and at home.  I think we begin to call him Speedy Gonzales when he had to change several tail numbers while on the road.  The rule was to always keep the tail numbers 1-5 on the tail of the airplanes during the show, even if one of them was spared by # 6 or # 7.  If we had the time before the show began………..the decision was made to wipe the lacquer number off both sides of the tail and put the correct position number on.  Masking off, stenciling, painting and getting it done right was always a beat the clock situation for our painters…….but it was always team work and managed on time.
