| Lt Col Tom Swalm and Cmdr Harley Hall during the 1971 Reunion at Nellis AFB. On January 27, 1973……Capt Harley Hall and his back-seater launched for a combat mission from the USS Enterprise in their F-4J Phantom. They would shortly thereafter come under intense ground fire Northwest of Quang Tri. They were shot down and later captured. Capt Hall's RIO was released during Operation Homecoming, but Capt Hall was listed as a POW for 6yrs thereafter. Unfortunately, his recognized former stature as a Blue Angel pilot made him a prize for the North Vietnamese. His death in captivity (years after the hostilities ended) is still a "mystery" as to why he was not released during Operation Homecoming like his RIO. |
